This was tasted as part of a tasting organised by Old Pulteney over on Twitter and comprised of Old Pulteney Navigator, 12 Year Old, and the newly released 1990 Peated Cask.
The 1990 Vintage is bottled at 46% NCF and natural coloured and was matured in ex-bourbon and Spanish ex-sherry casks which were previously used for ageing heavily peated malt.
Nose, smoke, chocolate, it’s earthy and herbal, a toffee sweetness and jammy ripe fruit notes.
Palate, very full bodied, juicy red fruits, a pipe tobacco type smokiness thats very delicately intertwined, port poached pears dribbled with honey.
Finish, juicy, fruity and peaty.
Overall, it’s a lovely whisky and the 23 years in peated casks gives the smoke a chance to really integrate with the spirit.
