This was tasted as part of a tasting organised by Old Pulteney over on Twitter and comprised of Old Pulteney Navigator, 12 Year Old, and the newly released 1990 Peated Cask.
The 12 year old from Old Pulteney is bottled at 40% and is matured wholly in air-dried, hand-selected ex-bourbon casks.
Nose, a great mix of apples, lemon, caramel and a honey sweetness.
Palate, is nice and full, fruits especially stewed apple (pie filling), creamy toffee, a light gingery spiciness and creamy.
Finish, orange, spices and vanilla.
Overall, for me this is a core range entry level malt that has been executed very well, it’s a whisky I’m familiar with that still surprises at a great price.
